Driving for disabled youngsters
Young Driver now welcomes wheelchair users, thanks to our specially adapted
SEAT Ibizas! Our cars have been fitted with hand controls and are fully
automatic. We have a number of adapted cars, based at various locations
around the UK.
The addition of hand control cars is the achievement of a longstanding
ambition of the programme to be as inclusive as possible. We also welcome
children with special needs and have already delivered more than 35,000
lessons to young people, including those with Asperger’s Syndrome, profound
deafness and visual impairment.
All youngsters will be taught by our government approved driving instructors
and will learn how to: steer, accelerate, brake, manoeuvre, reverse and park
on Young Driver’s dedicated driver training areas, each of which includes
roundabouts, junctions, driving and parking zones.
