The Young Driver team transform the truly massive car park at Barnsley FC’s historic Oakwell stadium into a state of the art driver education centre! Pupils learn to change gear, steer, drive, reverse and handle junctions from roundabouts and crossroads to T junctions, give way and stop junctions. There is free parking and parents and friends are welcome to watch from the viewing area. Toilets are available in the stadium nearby.
Making a day of it? Barnsley town centre lies just 6 minutes from Young Driver’s training area and offers shopping, cafes, restaurants and museums. Further afield lies the ruins of Monk Bretton Priory.

We are based in the centre of the country so the M1 is your ideal route to take. You'll need to exit the M1 at Junction 37 and then take the A628 towards Barnsley. Stay on this road (Oakwell is well sign-posted) and you will eventually reach the Alhambra roundabout. From there, take the first exit on your left onto Lambra Road. At the traffic lights turn right and follow the road under the bridge before a right turn onto Pontefract Road. You'll then take the third road on your left - Grove Street - and you will see the stadium ahead of you.
Venue mobile number for event day only (please note this will not be answered outside of event days): 07818 062684
On-site parking is available to home supporters in the Norman Rimmington South Stand car park. Whilst some of the capacity is taken up by those holding seasonal passes, we do have spaces available on matchdays, sold on a first come, first served basis. Tickets are for cars only and are priced at £5.
Between the stadium and the Metrodome Leisure Centre is a smaller parking area for visiting supporters - the Queens Ground - which costs £5 per car, £10 for a mini-bus and £20 for coaches.
Barnsley Interchange is the town's transport hub, combining bus and rail services. It is centrally located, facilitating connections for commuters and travellers within the region and beyond. It is roughly a 10 minute walk from the Interchange to Oakwell. The station is served by trains running between Sheffield and Leeds/Huddersfield, and trains in both directions arrive every 25 minutes or so.
When exiting the Interchange turn left away from the town centre and head towards the bridge that the dual-carriageway runs over. Go under the bridge and across the road, watching for traffic to your left, before turning right and then quickly left up Bala Street and straight down Belgrave Road where Oakwell will now be clearly visible.
Oakwell is just a 90 minute drive away from Manchester International Airport.
Other nearby airports include:
Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA), 40 minute drive from Oakwell.
Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA), 1 hour drive from Oakwell.
