Young Driver Gateshead is based on the huge coach park of the Metro Centre, which we transform into a fabulous driving training area. Beginners can master the clutch and gears and practice car control before moving on to junctions including T junctions, cross roads, roundabouts and give way intersections. We have a mixture of one and two way roads and special zones for reversing, parking and manoeuvres. With a dedicated viewing area, free parking and toilets nearby.
Making a day of it?
With 60 places to eat, over 270 stores and a choice of films at the cinema, there is much to see and do while you are at the Metrocentre! For those who wish to travel further afield, Newcastle-Upon -Tyne city centre is less than 20 minutes away by car.

Young Driver Gateshead is located in the Metrocentre Coach Park. We are in the coach park near Costco, right at the top of the car park.
For Sat Nav please use the postal code NE11 9SY but beware this is a generic postal code for the whole Metrocentre and is not specific for the Coach Park where our lessons take place.
We advise for you to check our Google Pin on the right-hand sign of the page to ensure you know which area of the Metro Centre we will be running from.
Travelling from the South:
Travel along the A1 Western Bypass Northbound, signposted towards "Gateshead/Newcastle". Exit at junction 70, signposted Whickham/Dunston/Coach Park. At the top of the slip road there are traffic lights, turn right towards Dunston. Follow this road ahead for approximately ½ mile. The road will bend round to the left. You then need to take the second road on the road into St. Omers Road. Follow this road to the end and then turn left onto the A1114, Handy Drive. Follow this road for approx. 1 mile until you reach a roundabout. The Metrocentre Coach Park is the second exit off the roundabout. We are at the back of the car park, furthest away from the entrance.
Travelling from the North:
Travel along the A1 Western Bypass Southbound, signposted towards "Gateshead/Newcastle". Exit at junction 73, signposted "Consett /Whickham" A694 and Swalwell (B6317). On slip road keep left towards Blaydon A694 (A695). At the roundabout, take the first exit towards Newcastle & Blaydon. Keeping right follow the A694 to the next roundabout. Take the 3rd exit onto the A1114, Riverside Way towards Metrocentre. Continue straight over the next roundabout (2nd exit), towards the Metrocentre. At the next roundabout, take the first exit signposted Riverside & Gateshead, continuing along the A1114, Riverside Way. Follow the road for approx.1/2 mile until you reach a roundabout. Take the 4th exit into the Metrocentre Coach Park. We are at the back of the car park, furthest away from the entrance.
