Ready for the next step in driving? Join a Driver Skills Event and learn how to go faster, with even more vehicle control and take onboard new techniques too. Aimed at youngsters who have done two or more Young Driver lessons already, these longer advanced driver skills sessions take the driving challenge to the next level.
Driver skills events require a long, straight stretch of road to simulate a motorway. We currently use Elvington Airfield Circuit near York, which offers excellent on-site facilities for our young drivers and accompanying families.
On average, our driver skills sessions are offered once a quarter, on selected weekend dates.
Our next event is taking place on the 1st May 2022 at Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire. Available to book now.
Bring on the advanced skills! These exciting Driver Skills Events will see youngsters literally stepping up a gear. With our unique simulated motorway set-up, teens will get a real feel for what driving at faster speeds on faster roads will be like. We just wish these sort of experiences had been around when we were teenagers!
Elvington Airfield Circuit is the perfect venue for these advanced driving sessions for teenagers. The long, smooth tarmac straights make the ideal setting to create a motorway-style driving scenario.
With entry and exit points, children learn how to safely drive onto and off the motorway. Once on the long straight, they’ll learn about driving at speeds up to 70mph, lanes and even overtaking. It’s all such good experience for them - and all before they’ve got their driving licence.
Advanced driving techniques are also covered on a skills session. ‘Brake and avoid’ is a method taught to Emergency Service response drivers and it’ll ensure new drivers stay calm and safe in what can be unpredictable driving conditions.
Youngsters will also learn about the driver aids on modern cars. We all know they are there, but do we really know how to use them? Your teens will be able to tell you all about ESP safety systems, ABS and the like by the end of their session!
Our Driver Skills Events last around two hours, with each child getting around one hour and 45 minutes behind the wheel. All teaching is geared to the driver. Open to any youngster aged between 10 and 17 years who has done at least two Young Driver lessons, older teens who are about to set off on the road for real particularly appreciate the advanced skills that are taught.
