We were delighted to be able to help the wonderful ITV show Surprise Surprise with a very special YOUNG DRIVER™ lesson.
The lovely Tony Davies and his wife Natalie had written to the show about their daughter Natasha, age 19. Natasha had recently been diagnosed with the rare inherited disease Friedreich’s Ataxia, which her brother Anthony sadly also suffers from. There is currently no known cure, and sufferers lose control of many of their muscles over time. Anthony is now in a wheelchair, and Natasha knows that one day she will also likely be unable to walk, and may also struggle to feed herself or even talk.
The inspirational Natasha had created a Wish List of 50 things she wanted to do before she was no longer able to. Tony asked the show to help his daughter complete some of the things on the list. Which was where we came in! Natasha wanted to do various things, including skiing and skinny dipping (which we couldn’t help out with!), but she also wanted to learn to drive. So YOUNG DRIVER™ stepped in and offered a driving lesson at our Manchester Trafford Centre venue. But Natasha had no idea she was being filmed for the show, so it was all top secret! TV presenter Dave Berry was also there dressed as a car park attendant, but luckily she still didn’t twig. Natasha was a natural and hopefully she really enjoyed her time behind the wheel.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when Natasha got up to sing at her beloved Tranmere Rover’s football club – what a beautiful voice. The programme is also helping her achieve her biggest goal – a visit to America, to see New York, Nashville and LA. Have a great time Natasha, you deserve it.
We were delighted to play a small part in helping Natasha achieve her list, and wish her and her family all the very best for the future. We’d be more than happy to organise future lessons and we even have cars specially adapted for wheelchair users, so no matter what the future holds we hope to see more of the lovely Natasha.
